Create SEO content 2017

Yesterday my partner and I were reviewing a site audit from SEMRush. We're moving the site we just built from HTTP to HTTPS - there are broken links, duplicate & missing metas, duplicate H1s and a bunch of other standard technical SEO errors.

Then we realized we are already at the top of page 2 for a major search term, despite the fact that the site’s currently a technical SEO mess. We launched less than 2weeks ago.

So how is a brand new site with a ton of SEO issues already showing up so high on google search? Because we produce high quality content and drive traffic via social media - it's true, content is king. Google is becoming more “human” — now I know that once the errors are fixed from the technical side, our content is what will make us fly to the top spot fast.Related:GroupBuy SEO Tools

How do we produce content that ranks ?

We know every small nuance of our industry. We keep a tight grip on our competition, watching what they are producing and ensuring our written, graphic and video content blows them out of the water. We engage with our audience and potential clients on twitter, in facebook groups, and on LinkedIn. We don't overdo it with keywords and millions of internal links.

We simply produce content that's helpful to our target clientele.

We know what they need to hear, what information to publicize that they cannot find elsewhere, and back it all up with a solid success rate for our services. We promote the truth, even when the truth sucks.

Focus less on technicalities and more on spreading breaking news and innovative industry developments. Be your ideal customer.

As far as producing content, I can tell you right off the bat that writing is not enough. Videos are crucial. I know it's difficult to produce media for many industries, but YouTube will get you ranking fast. I love VideoScribe for making whiteboard animations - these are powerful pieces of content and you can do a white board on just about anything. For blogs: you need to know what's trending, And you need to write about those topics. I live on AHREFS -I've been doing this for a while now and it's by far my favorite tool for finding the best topics for my content strategy. It depends on the industry, but I still believe the rule of thirds applies in almost any circumstance: blog every day, but post 1/3 educational, 1/3 breaking news or trends, and 1/3 promotional . Break it up and keep it interesting.

Finally, collaborate with top influencers - even if they're direct competitors.

Learn from them and see if they'd be willing to guest blog and cross promote. Most are curious about what others are doing and will be more than happy to at least discuss the idea.

Content is king. Keep your ear to the ground and your fingers on the keyboard and just let it roll.
